“Why We Study English”

Цели и задачи урока:

1. Учебно-методические задачи урока:
• Активизация языкового материала по теме «Роль английского языка в мире» в реальной ситуации общения.
• Развивать умение находить ответы на вопросы в воспринимаемом на слух тексте.
• Тренировка в употреблении речевых клише.
• Практикование учащихся во всех видах языковой деятельности.
2. Общеобразовательные цели:
• Приобщение учащихся к научно-исследовательской деятельности, используя дополнительные источники.
• Ориентация на развитие навыков и умений иноязычной языковой деятельности (аудирования, говорение, монологическая и диалогическая речь).
• Овладение лексикой по теме «Изучение английского языка».
• Обучение общению, познавательной деятельности с использованием английского языка.
• Развитие лингвистического мышления.
3. Воспитательные цели урока:
• Воспитание цивилизованной личности
• Воспитание культуры мышления, общения и поведения на английском языке.
• Осознание важности изучения английского языка для дальнейшей жизни.
• Привите интереса к изучению английского языка.
• Способствование ознакомлению с иноязычной культурой и расширению кругозора учащихся средствами иностранного языка.

Хід уроку:

Teacher: Good morning, dear children.

Ps: Good morning.

T: As you can see, there are many guests at our lesson today. Let’s greet them.

From the very beginning I’d like you to make two teams.

Warming up:

T: Who is on duty today? Who is absent? (Speaking about the today’s weather or any other subject you like).

T: Today we are going to speak about the English language, about the role of the English language in our life.

So the topic of our lesson is “Why we study English”. At our lesson we shall try to answer this question. (Presenting of the information about English-speaking countries.)

Presenting the information ‘English is easy’.

Now let’s learn the rhyme about learning the English language:

I love learning English,
I can read,
I can write,
I can speak English, too.
I love learning rhymes!
And what about you?
Most children like to learn English. I also like it very much, because it is my life. And what do you think about learning English, boys and girls? Why do we study English?
Using the method Brain storm. Children try to answer the question and fill the mind map.

Some variants of answers:
- English helps us to learn a lot of things about different people from different countries; to watch English and American films in the original; to read books and youth magazines; to read newspapers; to listen to the radio and TV musical programmes in English; to visit foreign countries; to have an English-speaking penfriend; to read labels and instructions; to take part in exchange programmes; to learn about traditions and customs; to communicate with the people from other countries;  to make friends with children of other countries; to chat the Internet and so on ).
T: Now let’s discuss some questions.
How can we study English language?

•         studying at school

•         studying at a language school in the UK or the USA

•         living in a country where it’s spoken

•         communicating with native speakers

•         by correspondence with a penfriend

•         watching English movies

•         reading English newspapers/magazines/books

Where can we study English?

•         at school

•         at special English courses

•         traveling around the world

•         living in an English-speaking country

•         communicating with native speakers

•         with the help of Internet

Teacher: We have decided that we can study English by different ways.
And what is the best way for you to study English?
Pupil 1: I think, the best way to study languages is learning English at special English courses.
Pupil 2: I think the best way to study languages is learning English with the help of Internet.
Pupil 3: I think the best way to study languages is speaking with native speaker.
Pupil 4: I think the best way to study languages is traveling abroad.
T: I think you are right. Traveling is the best way to study foreign languages. We have learned some poems about traveling. Who remembers them and wants to recite the poems?
1. I like to travel
By plane or on foot,
To see new places
That’s really good.
2. Row, row, row your boat
Gently down the stream
Merrily (4 times)
Life is but a dream.
3. Over the mountains,
Over the plains,
Over the rivers

T.: Well done. And now let’s read the text about English in your textbooks. Open them on page 54 and do ex. 1.
As you can see, learning English is very important for almost every person. But what must a good language learner be?
effectively, fluently, fast, native speakers, quickly, grammar.
A good language learner :

6. He can speak to and is understood by …
T: As I can see you are real and good language learners. But you surely have some problems while studying English, don’t you? Let’s see. ( We are coming back to Ex. 3, p. 47)
T.: I hope you won’t have any problems with your English in the future.
 And now let’s see if you are good in English. Do some tasks.
Task 1 . Give the rhyme E.g. White- bright

1. Дієслово “to be” – це дієслово-зв’язка в простих реченнях. (так)
2. Час Present Simple показує майбутню дію. (ні)

4. Прийменник “ behind“ українською мовою перекладається як “між”. (ні)
5. В англійській мові 26 букв. (так)
6. В англійській мові 12 голосних букв. (ні)
7. Слово “nobody” перекладається як “ ніщо”. (ні)
8. Слово “double-decker” – перекладається як одноповерховий автобус. (ні)
9. Назвіть три ступеня порівняння прикметника good. (good – better – the best)
10. Назвіть три ступеня порівняння прикметника bad. (bad – worse – the worst)
11. Назвіть другу форму неправильного дієслова go. (went)
12. Назвіть другу форму неправильного дієслова say. (said)

Task 4. And now – some rhymes. They are called lymerics. But look! Something is wrong with them. Try to put the lines into the right order.
